Penny Thoughts ‘12—Hackers (1995) *

Director: Iain Softley
Writer: Rafael Moreu

Cyberpunk cool.
Skateboards as dramatic tools of transportation.
Rollerblading indoors, oh my!
Body armor as disenfranchised fashion statement.

Angelina’s lips.
No leg here.
Supercool chick!
Supercool chic!

Image overlays.
Dramatic typing.
Typing code at super speed!
Video game-style virtual electronic world.

Kickass names…
Zero Cool. Crash Override. Acid Burn. Cereal Killer. Phantom Phreak. Lord Nikon.
The Plague!!!

Is that Penn Jillette as a cyber security guard?
Perhaps he could perform a magic trick and make himself disappear from this mess.
Because if Trump sees this, he might get fired from “The Apprentice”.

The soundtrack’s cool.
With Underworld, Leftfield and Massive Attack.

Then there’s threats and smashing things!
This is what movie villains do.
Destruction of public property?
Not interested in the culprits when those are the heroes.

No computer store geeks here.
In this world the nerds are sexy; their lives so cool.

Remember those little block-style laptops?
They probably weighed as much as a concrete block.

Should somebody tell these kids that when you find out ahead of time that the feds are coming to arrest you at a certain time of day, you can hide before they get there?

But it’s all cool.
They’re cyber cool.
That chick will win an Oscar someday.
And collect kids like the ones seen here.
And that guy will direct “K-PAX”.
‘Nuff said!
