Wow. I’d almost forgotten
how much I enjoy this movie. I love this movie. I love it. I love it. This
movie is like spending two hours watching and listening to one of my best
friends. The movie spoke directly to me in 2000. The book spoke directly to me
in 1996. John Cusack, who stars in the film, continually throughout the movie
to breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to whoever is watching.
Incidentally, I do have a
best friend who lives in Chicago and did work in a music store throughout the
90’s and early ‘00s. My music collection is ridiculously large. I often am
forced by stress to rearrange my collection in order of alphabet, chronology,
etc. I haven’t tried doing it autobiographically yet, but there’s time.
I think the romantic throws
of the hero are a little more reflective of my romantic history than my Chicago
friend’s, but then one of the magic qualities of Nick Hornby’s story of a
record store owner with a penchant to place every aspect of his life into top
five lists is his hero is so relatable. That goes even if you don’t make top
five lists of every aspect of your life
